Asher and Cadence are one month old already, and Isaac turns 3 this week. After six weeks, this is our last week with 3 kids under 3.
This month has been extremely up and down even with an abundance of help from grandparents, family and friends. Thanks again to all the baby holders, bottle feeders and Isaac playmates.
Lindy continues to struggle with nursing and low milk supply, getting lots of different advice from various sources. The feeding routine still takes up most of her time, leaving very little time to do anything else. So Lindy goes out to various breastfeeding clinics and support groups to “hang out with boobs out” with other new moms, and some other twin moms too. Otherwise, there have been a few mall walks with Noelia and her baby Olivia, a couple sushi excursions, and various visits and playdates at the house.
The babies are growing well and have outgrown a few sleepers already. They are now just over 7lbs, with Cadence in the lead at 7lbs 5oz. She remains more stretched out and sturdy, while Asher is always curled up and often snuggles up close to Cadence. There have been a few smiles and they are starting to spend more time awake. We are still camped in the livingroom with no expected end in sight, but it often feels more like a barn with the little lamb and goat noises coming from the crib…
So far, the hardest part about having twins has been the 3 year old! Isaac has started getting up in the night almost as often as the babies (and obviously not at the same time as them) to make sleep deprivation a serious thing around here. We are not the world’s best parents in the middle of the night!
But Isaac has also been very cute with the babies, giving them lots of kisses and hugs, and bringing them stuffed animals or toys to play with. He struggles with the lessened attention on him, but we’re trying to make it work. He sometimes sits with Lindy while she’s nursing to read stories or play games, and has really enjoyed having all the extra people around.
He wants the whole family to sleep in his bed at night…
Isaac seems to have grown too, with shirts and pants getting too short and he seems to have thickened out especially in his hands and feet. But he remains steady at 26lbs so it must be partly our skewed perception with tiny babies around. He continues to enjoy his French lessons, and has done really well with skating although he has recently been refusing to go to his lessons, even after really enjoying them with Aunt Sam. He’s really into doing puzzles, colouring (sometimes inside the lines!) and playing with playdough. Although he has a play structure in the basement, he still spends most of his time playing with cardboard boxes and balloons or just simply bouncing off the walls, couches or beds. A few of his current sayings include: “that’s not my favourite”, “we have to go on an emergency”, and making up his own silly words.
This week we celebrated Opa’s birthday, Uncle Greg’s 40th birthday and of course Isaac turning 3! He was very excited for his birthday and really enjoyed all the gifts and decorations, and as always – CUPCAKES!
