Back to work!

Lindy is back to work, and Cadence and Asher are doing well at daycare. The first week, they could have cared a bit more about being left with strangers for the day… But it made it easy for Lindy to enjoy some time to get things done before going back to work. (Oh, and some skiing!) They struggled a bit more with the second week at drop off and pick ups but that seems to have improved somewhat with the twins. Isaac still often has a hard time leaving daycare, as we either arrive too early or too late for his liking. He’s so into colouring these days that they have started sending him home with a certain crayon to finish his drawing just to get him to leave! Needless to say, it can be exhausting trying to rally everyone into the car. Who knows how we’ll do it once Cadence and Asher aren’t in the bucket seats anymore.

The transition with work and daycare went surprisingly better than expected, although Cadence seems to be refusing to nap there. We’ve been managing mornings and most dinners on our own, but still look forward to help once a week. Things will likely change again once Jon starts climbing roofs again this spring. But so far, Lindy is enjoying the different pace of work, and is loving being so close to home. No idea where a commute would fit into the day! Since the kids love being outside so much, we’ll hopefully start walking to daycare soon.

Cadence has moved on to gross motor skills now, climbing and standing on top of everything – chairs, tables, the slide etc. She has started trying to dress herself, tries to do up her high chair buckle, and build towers. She also mimics us and Isaac. She now grabs her boots and goes and bangs on the front door to indicate that she wants to go outside. She has a particular love of socks, and carries them around whenever she gets the chance, and dives into her sock drawer when helping to pick out her clothes. Cadence can follow directions now too, and will bring something to us when we ask. She tries to take care of us too, feed us, and help clean up by washing the floor (although she has often poured her milk on the floor on purpose so that she can wipe it up with a cloth).

Funny how they seem to go through the same stages but at different times. Asher is now really into books and turning pages which is what Cadence was doing when Asher was busy climbing into sinks. Asher was the first to get a haircut though, since his hair was starting to block his eyes. With his short brush cut hair, he really looks like a little boy now. He loves to hold onto utensils or containers and always has something in his hand while walking around the house. He wants to be involved in everything we do, and yells until he is lifted up to see what we are doing in the kitchen, or to help wash dishes. So now he is the one pointing up high and screaming.

They are both trying to communicate all the time, and although they haven’t started signing much yet, they can usually get their message across. But this house is going to be a loud one, with all three kids already constantly talking, babbling or screaming. Isaac likes to egg them on when they start yelling for no apparent reason, and then it goes back and forth like a conversation.

Isaac was very excited for Valentine’s Day, and helped put his valentines together. He of course loves any occasion that involves chocolate! I wonder where he gets that from…? With some nice weather, we’ve been enjoying getting outside, to the neighbourhood community days, winterlude, tobogganing, and a spontaneous visit from Chris, Hank and Jack. Isaac also got to attend his first live hockey game, the 67s, with Papa and daddy.

So we seem to be adjusting to the daily grind. Looking forward to evening visits to the park and BBQs. Before we know it, it will be time for the cottage!
