We all got into the holiday spirit early this year – the tree is up and decorated, the Christmas lights are hung, most of the presents are wrapped already… a day off on Black Friday kicked it all off and Isaac kept it going! “Pretty lights!” Isaac loves the decorations, and wanted to read books by the tree lights the first night it was up. Isaac was excited to see Santa at the neighbourhood children’s holiday party, and seemed to know who he was. He didn’t like sitting on Santa’s knee, but he still talks about it. He did surprise us by sitting silently watching the magic show, and also by patiently stringing beads on a pipecleaner.
Isaac is talking non-stop now, with some full sentences, and an amazing memory to recount events. He tells us about the other kids in daycare who push him and how he says “no no” while wagging his finger – and can even draw the same conclusion from the page in Dr Seuss’s book One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish in which some fish are very very bad…”red fish push, yellow fish – no no”.
Jon built Isaac a ‘learning tower’ on top of an Ikea stool so that Isaac can participate in everything we do in the kitchen. Little chef in the making, and one who even helps clean up!
Isaac loves watching the birds, so Jon and Isaac made a bird feeder – and when the birds didn’t show up right away, Lindy took him to the woods where a chickadee ate out of our hands – very exciting stuff.
Jon was working on building the bedroom door, so anything to do with daddy’s tools and Isaac is in heaven. We spend a lot of time looking through Jon’s wall of drawers full of screws and staples and drill bits. “Daddy drill, Isaac drill” – and Isaac brings his tools everywhere.
We don’t spend as much time outside anymore – apparently Isaac doesn’t like the cold. We’re hoping the snow will make a difference, since we have plans to ski and skate this year…
