Is it summer yet?

It took awhile to get started because of the flood water level on the river, but sailing is now underway! Lindy and Jon are both getting a night out of the house each week – thanks to grandparents who help out at home. Cadence doesn’t take too well to Lindy being gone, so there may be many evening walks to come… Isaac is doing better at letting other people help out with bedtime, and hopefully things continue to get easier as the babies start going to bed earlier.

It has been a late spring at the cottage, with huge mosquitoes and flies, and the lake water still freezing cold. But Isaac has been in the water already, and still loves to jump off the raft. Jon has been in the water too, although not so much by choice. He managed to get the dock in the water mainly by himself, by floating the whole frame around the point to the dock location, using every lifejacket we could find. Papa and Opa both helped with aspects of the installation, while Grandma and Oma each helped Lindy manage the three kids.

In anticipation of the coming cottage holiday, Lindy has been trying to come up with solutions to the two baby scenario. We put up a tent on the beach in the shade to have a bug free zone for them to play in, which of course only lasts a few short minutes anyway. The roof top deck is proving to be a great place for some exersaucer time, and will likely come in handy as a place to relax while babies are sleeping.

The babies are growing and now need their own playpens at the cottage. They have graduated to their own cribs at home too. Asher is rolling over in his sleep, and getting stuck against the side or end of the crib – upsetting him and waking him up. We then figured out that he’s been practicing crawling in his sleep and he’s so close already! (It looks a bit more like a face shuffle right now but he can cover some ground). Cadence just pivots in circles around her head, but almost always wakes up happy, chatting away to herself until her cheerful screams are heard. Unfortunately it isn’t easy to just let her play in the crib to see if she’ll fall back to sleep, since there is always the fear that she’ll wake up the other sleeping baby… Sleep training hasn’t started yet, because every time we think one of the babies needs it and the other doesn’t – they switch it up. They are falling into a bit of a sleep routine, which means they need to be home for naps, and with their often opposite schedules, Lindy finds it hard to get out as much now. We have still made it to a few twin groups and baby lunch club. As long as we only screw up one nap a day!

Isaac went on a field trip with daycare to the Experimental Farm, and had fun taking the bus. He’s looking forward to our two week holiday at the cottage, during which he doesn’t have to go to school. “Is today a school day? No? YAY!” When we return from holidays, Isaac will be moving up to the preschool room!
