Isaac’s first trip to the ocean

We knew our trip to Dominican with a toddler wouldn’t be a vacation, and it was just like normal life but in a better place! Isaac was a trooper, and far exceeded my very low expectations 😉 and we had a great time.

Isaac was so excited to go on the trip, he was telling everyone at daycare how we were going to fly on a plane the day before we left. He was a champ on the flight, and traveled really well. He adapted really easily to the change in weather and location, although he didn’t sleep that well at night.

The resort was great for Isaac, with a water splash park, a playground, several pools and buffet restaurants. Isaac got a kick out of riding the trolley carts around the resort. Our room was extremely close to the beach which was perfect for our early morning activities.

Unfortunately the door to our room was left slightly open before we checked in, and Isaac was bitten by mosquitoes that first night, even with bug spray on. Luckily Isaac turned the annoying bugs into a game and enjoyed spotting and killing the mosquitoes on the balcony. Isaac’s bug bites also inspired our only excursion off the resort – to visit a Dominican hospital to get antibiotics and cream for an infected bug bite…

Isaac surprised us with his flexible nap schedule. A couple days before we left, we found out that friends of ours were staying 3 resorts down the beach! They were only a 15 minute walk down the beach, and Isaac would fall asleep as we walked to their resort, and then slept for 2 hours in the stroller while we hung out with our friends. It was amazing to get to spend his naps on the beach and not in the room.

Although the resort had several A la Carte restaurants to choose from, we soon discovered that we had to take turns touring the buffet with Isaac while the other person gobbled their food, so we stuck to the buffets and snack bars. Isaac survived off fruit, crackers and the tops of cupcakes but we had brought lots of snacks from home.

While we didn’t have to deal with getting Isaac into a carseat or snowsuit for an entire week, we traded those tantrums for the sunscreen and swimsuit fits…but once we were out of the room, Isaac loved every minute!

MIght be awhile before we do it again, but overall the beach is the place to be!
