School is on! Isaac started his first day of kindergarten this fall, albeit a few weeks delayed because of covid. He was very excited to get on the bus with his friends even though they had to wear face masks – it doesn’t seem to phase these kids. He was ready for school, and is enjoying his teachers and says that they do lots of fun things!
September was another month of pandemic stress, with multiple covid tests interrupting our childcare schedule and reducing our workable days. Jon’s business is extremely busy which is a good problem to have but a problem nonetheless. Lindy had started going into work a couple of days a week, but was soon forced to stay home when the kids were repeatedly sent home from daycare and school. A strongly worded email was sent to the principle to explain our frustration with their acceptance of symptoms reported by a 4 year old who wants nothing more than to stay home with us! Everyone is learning how to deal with a very tough situation.
We had a fun long weekend at the cottage, with a visit from Grandma and Papa, as well friends we haven’t seen in a long time and probably won’t again for awhile… Now that school is in, it is recommended to keep our playdates to kids from school. Luckily that includes our neighbours!
Since Jon has taken on working one day a weekend, Lindy has learned to manage the kids in the outdoors on her own or with help from neighbours. We’ve done a few trail walks and trips to parks. Who knows what the colder weather will mean for our keep-busy activities.
September moments:
When Isaac was asked what he thought oma would like for her birthday, his response surprised us with it’s perfection: “string!”
Cadence is afraid of her shadow! Once she notices it, she won’t move for fear of stepping on it, until we wave and say “hi Shadow!”
Cadence and Asher were starting to talk more, and have words for eachothers and Isaac’s names. “Iyah” for Isaac. “Ayah” for Asher. Cadence says “yeah” in a very cute way when asked a question. Asher often answers very enthusiastically “yeah” or “no no no no no”.
Cadence is always motioning for us to come play with her, and says “come” (sounds like ummm”). Asher is always bringing us a book to read to him. Isaac is always climbing on our heads. Makes it hard to do all three at once…
Asher’s speech is unique in that he doesn’t say words as much as repeats the intonation of the words. No pronunciation specifically, but makes the noise with his mouth closed. Somehow it still sounds like the words!
Cadence and Asher’s favorite songs are Row row row your boat, Rolly Poly, If you’re happy and you know it, Wheels on the bus… and of course – Baby shark! They love doing the actions, and often start singing on their own whenever they see a boat or shark. They also like dancing to the Wiggles.
