Lockdown Deja vu

We brought in the new year in lockdown again this year. And while we expected the closures of schools, they waited until the last possible second to make the announcement official. We were extremely fortunate to have the support of grandparents to help with the load of online school.

Between 2 weeks of online school, a snow day, kids with colds, Asher’s pink eye, and Isaac’s ear infection, all three kids had only been out of the house for school at the same time for a total of 6 days in 2022 by mid February. It was thing after thing, and the new covid rules meant isolation periods are longer for any one symptom.

Cadence and Asher were super excited about their 3rd birthday, and counted down the days. Although Cadence wanted to invite her friends to her “party”, they were happy with their family dinners with grandparents again this year. They enjoyed opening presents, and having birthday decorations. They especially loved the cake and ice cream.

January was exceptionally cold which meant a lot of indoor play, however since we seemed to have someone sick at all times, it was for the best. The Christmas presents came in handy, and the kids renewed their love of forts. Thank goodness for snow mountains to provide a brief escape outside.

We lucked out that the kids were mostly over their colds by the time our trip to Mont Tremblant came along at the beginning of February. Things were opening up again finally, so we took advantage of the opportunity to take the kids to Bubble Sea Adventures for a friend’s birthday, to get out some energy before the drive. Unfortunately we started the trip off with a bit of carsickness from Isaac, 5 minutes before arriving at the chalet…

We had a great trip overall, with wonderful weather and lots of activities. We got to spend lots of time with Oma and Opa, who also babysat while Jon, Isaac and Lindy went skiing. Isaac really took to skiing, desperate to ski the big mountain and go fast down the hill. His skill was natural and he was able to ski top to bottom 4 times by his last day of lessons. Cadence really wanted to try skiing too, so we’ll do that around home. Cadence and Asher did get to go to the top of the mountain on a gondala ride, and loved it. We also found a great ice slide that kept them going for a few mornings. Asher and Cadence wore their favourite costumes every day while we were away.

Oma and Lindy were both sick with colds for the whole trip, which put a bit of a damper on things, but better us than the kids! We powered through, though the cold seems never ending. At least it’s not covid.

It was hard for the kids to adjust to being back home and going to school (especially since they have hardly been to school so far this year!) We moved Cadence and Asher up to twin beds which has also been an adjustment – but they keep asking for their bunk beds already! It helped that their first day back to school was Valentines’ Day. So much excitement over exchanging valentines and getting chocolate and treats. Isaac was really wishing we could have a party. Thankfully it seems as though he might be in luck for his birthday this year!
