Things are about to get busy around here, as Asher and Cadence start exploring! The babies are 7 months today, and Asher is crawling and starting to pull himself up and cruise, while Cadence isn’t far behind! She has begun going forward as well as backward, and they both love to be walked around holding onto our hands.
At their 6 month check up, Cadence was 14lbs 13oz and Asher was 15lbs 6oz. Asher is slightly longer as well, with a bigger head. Isaac is now only barely twice their weight, with his most recent weight being 29lbs – but he seems to be growing too! Everyone is moving up in clothing size, and so we are constantly sifting through our (fortunate) donations of clothing. Isaac is constantly showing us how tall he is (“Look how tall I am!” holding his arms up in the air), as well as how far or high he can jump. All 3 kids are eating well these days, and dinner time rotates between fun meals outside and overwhelmingly loud scream fests inside. No teeth yet, but the babies seem to have been teething for months! We are still extremely grateful for the dinner/bed time help we receive from the grandparents! We are also lucky to get more time this fall with Glenna too, now that she is available another day a week 🙂
Now that the babies are sitting up and moving, they are spending less time in the exersaucers and stroller because they want to be free to roam. It makes for happier babies generally, but they also manage to get themselves into interesting situations as well. with one baby kicking the other one in the head or stealing a toy or stuck under furniture. Bathtime is more entertaining too as the babies start to really splash and play while sitting up in the tub or sometimes in the stand-up shower too. Isaac has really taken to entertaining the babies, who are infatuated with him and giggle non-stop at his antics. He seems to be enjoying them even more now that they interact with him. With the weather being a bit cooler, it is more appealing to try to take the babies outside – however we are now also on more of a schedule with two long naps a day so it can be a struggle to get out in between feedings and naps. But hey, with nights still a crap-shoot for sleep, we’ll take the sleep when we can get it! Although we may have finally figured out how to feed Asher enough so that he sleeps better, so we might be headed for some better nights. We were back to sleepless nights after the August long weekend at the cottage, in which all three kids were waking up more than once a night at separate times of course. Then we moved into the “should have been a good night”, when on an individual basis, each kid slept well, but combined meant we were still up 4 times a night. Fingers crossed that we can get it down to once or twice a night on a regular basis!
Isaac keeps us laughing too, with some of the things he says. While Lindy is trying to get back into exercising, and running him up to daycare in the stroller – Isaac heard her huffing and puffing at the top of a hill, and said “Mommy are you okay? Maybe we should have taken the car!” He is still always looking to be helpful, with his new favourite toy being a spray-mop “where can I mop now? I’m going to mop, and then vacuum and then mop and then vacuum…” We never would have guessed that his desire to clean would get annoying, but carrying babies around on wet floors isn’t the best either. He still often asks “what can I do for you mommy?” however when given a task, his response is often an excuse for why he can’t do that thing “well, no I can’t, my hands are in my pockets so I can’t do that” or “I’m not interested in that”. He had a bit of a cough lately and blamed the babies, saying that “the babies didn’t cover their cough so now I’m sick” and then of course “chocolate will feel me better!” We’ve been trying to emphasize manners and now Isaac says “May Can I have some chocolate” even after repeated corrections. Isaac is learning to wipe his own bum (yay!!) but when being explained why it is so important to wash our hands so no one gets pink eye, he said “In Canada, there is someone with pink eye…in Montreal.” We’re in a band-aid craze right now since Isaac has been falling A LOT and hurting himself (“look there’s bled!” or “at school it was bleeding” when the skin is barely broken). He also pronounces elbow as arbow, and canker as tanker. Yellow is still lellow and sometimes he drops the first syllable of words like computer “puter” and construction “struction” – regardless of spending weeks reading detailed books about different construction machines, which he can name specifically.
Too bad summer is almost over, just as we’re starting to get the hang of things…
