The babies are now three months old and Lindy is a year older, and seemingly a lot has changed this month!
Isaac is sleeping much better, and only gets up in the night occasionally now. How this happened, we don’t know. Might have coincided with Jon moving back upstairs with Asher (we each take a baby at night now). Cadence is also sleeping longer periods at night which is what prompted the baby separation. Almost as though Cadence knew it was Lindy’s birthday, she only woke up once in the night for a couple nights that weekend. This continues to happen occasionally now, and makes such a difference!! Asher hasn’t quite caught on yet but we’re hopeful that will change soon too.
We had a nice visit from Oma and Opa, includng a trip to the sugar bush with Shelley and her girls, and a family dinner with Greg and Charlene and the Czeds to celebrate Lindy’s birthday. The reality of a birthday party with twins means bouncing/shushing babies during dinner, and nursing while blowing out the cake candles. But fun none the less. Lindy also got a dinner out with friends which was much appreciated!
We continue to get lots of help from Grandma and Papa, and sailing friends Glenna and Debbie. While we need to start getting into our own routine, there are definitely days when we wouldn’t survive without their help! Jon was able to get out to help a friend at the cottage show again, and inspired our first cottage visit on Easter weekend.
The Easter Bunny was good to the kids, bringing PJs, stickers and chocolate. Isaac even had an outdoor Easter egg hunt with the neighbours! He also had fun decorating Easter eggs. And of course we enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner with the Clark family.
We took advantage of the twin factor for the first time, attending the multiple births association spring consignment sale “Twice as Nice”, and scored a big bag of clothes, shoes, movies and puzzles. Cadence now has some dresses to last her until she’s two.
With nicer weather, we’ve been out to the park and biked Isaac home from daycare a few times. We are excited for the neighbourhood soccer and t-ball to start too. Can’t wait for nice evenings and eating on the deck. Lindy has been getting out for more walks, and hanging out with the other maternity moms in the neighbourhood.
The babies are getting big now, weighing 10 and 11lbs, with Asher turning into quite the chunky monkey! Asher has started grabbing things and is really playful. Cadence is full of smiles. Isaac continues to help out, and wants us all to do everything together.
Isaac is really into measurements after reading a dinosaur book that describes their size and what they eat. So now everything is 7 metres tall, or 100lbs. He often asks how big something is, or “how much does that dinosaur eat”? Isaac also wants to know everyone’s name (asks people on the street, or “what’s that boys’ mom’s name?”) His favourite number is five (which is his idea of really big). “Who is five years old? Who else is five years old?” “I want so much, i want 5!” And the latest is that Isaac is “1 huge” or “5 huge”.
And just when we think we’re getting the hang of it, things change again and we’re scrambling to figure out a new way to do things. Lindy has become more grateful for Jon working from home, and has taken advantage of his presence more in the last week than since the twins were born. How does one person feed one baby while actively trying to calm the other screaming baby (shushing and bouncing baby number 2)…?
