Unfortunately we’ve been stuck in survival mode for a few weeks now. A combination of sleepless nights, renovations, and the kids having colds, has exhausted us all. Although Isaac has been extremely intent on helping daddy with the front hall project that is now completely underway (turning our house a bit upside down!) Isaac and daddy have been working hard!
Jon enjoyed his getaway at the end of September, and his sailing team came in 2nd! He was able to get a few more hours of sleep in a row and a bit of relief from the daily grind. The weekend was much harder for Lindy et al. even with an abundance of help! Christine was desperately needed overnight, when at one point all three kids were screaming/crying at once. The only thing that calmed Isaac down that night was wondering what colour Christine’s car is…? Isaac enjoyed having her around in the morning too. Papa took Isaac to the museum for an entire day which helped tremendously, and Grandma and Aunt Brenda watched the babies while Lindy hit up the Twice as Nice sale and scored snowsuits and shoes and clothes for a great deal! Then we had a very nice day with Oma and Opa, and Aunt Joanne and Uncle Frank who were visiting. All was successful, minus the few hours Aunt Joanne spent in the hospital after surviving an Asher attack –> he scratched her cornea!! Jon arrived home around the same time Aunt Joanne got back, in better spirits with some pain killers, just in time for a big family dinner.
The rest of the month has been spent trying to get all the materials sorted out for our renovation, more birthday parties, starting the Halloween activities, decorating and costume making, and celebrating Thanksgiving. We had a jam packed Thanksgiving weekend with a Friendsgiving at the Junkins with Zac and Meaghan from NYC, the OPS Halloween party at Saunders Farm, family brunch at Oma and Opa’s, and a casual afternoon with the Clarks (minus Grandma and Papa who were away on a cruise!!)
The babies have been having fun, and are scarily close to walking… They love to crawl through and under things and are continuously getting stuck in odd situations. They’ve switched to two naps which has been an adjustment, but their naps are now more reliable than not, and often a much needed nap for Lindy too. Teething continues but Asher now has a tooth! Cadence is quite the chatter box. We might be getting somewhere with their sleep (knock on wood), as Asher has slept through the night twice now, though not in a row…of course the other two were still up several times. Cadence has been slowly weaning off nursing, but still wakes in the night and sometimes early in the morning – and she used to be the good sleeper!
We spent a few more evenings on our own, while the grandparents were away – at the same time that Glenna was in Europe! So we trekked out to the park, library and playgroup, trying to spend some much needed one on one time with Isaac. Isaac asks everyday to go to a friend’s house. We’ve really been struggling with this 3 year old stage – not knowing how to handle the frequent tantrums and night wakings…Lindy has been filling spare minutes with books and videos on parenting which has been useful in helping to understand the preschooler mind – but has yet to prove helpful in how to manage the situations as they arise. The lack of sleep combined with the emotionally draining struggles with Isaac have left us in survival mode…Everyone reassures us that this is just another phase.
It’s Lindy’s turn to getaway for a weekend – leaving on Friday and can’t be more excited!! Fingers crossed all goes well at home, and that she can take advantage of the time for rest – though with 8 girls sharing a luxury house on the water in Picton…not sure if rest is in the cards. But the break will be well worth it!
